Thea and Ethan on collecting art for love

Art advisors Ethan Wagner and Thea Westreich Wagner tell you how to collect art for the best possible reason

When Ethan Wagner and Thea Westreich Wagner were last in the UK we grabbed them for an afternoon of chat in the suite of their hotel, Claridges. Actually, we ended up spending rather a lot of time with the fascinating authors of Collecting Art for Love, Money and More, so rather than break up the footage we shot into a bunch of two minute snips - some of which you might miss - we thought it best to allow them some room to really stretch out. At around ten minutes or so each they're a little longer than the standard Phaidon video files but Thea and Ethan are so knowledgable it's nice to just listen to them jam together so authoritatively on their chosen subject.

Weve cut them into three videos: one on collecting for love, one for money and one - yes you guessed it - for more. Today's one is Love - on which Ethan says: "You can respond to a work of art because you understand the intentionality of the artist and it triggers something in your mind and you're just amazed by human creativity that way. And that translates to a more emotional feeling."

Partner Thea concurs saying: "I would add that sometimes it's just a sense between the heart, the stomach and the mind that you may wanna pay attention. It kind of stops you. I'll stay here for a moment or two and that begins the affair."

We hope you enjoy today's video and remember, you can buy Collecting Art for Love, Money and More from the people who made it here. Look out for the other two videos coming soon.
